What's that? My ticket says CAIRO!!!!

Waiting in the FAT airport! Two more flights after this one!

Today has been the LONGEST day ever! Things started out great... all our bags were packed, Sean went to church, and then we were off to the airport! I heard this morning on Fox News that London may possibly be closing its airport due to the eruption of the Icelandic volcano... apparently the ash was starting to blow towards Heathrow. Sean called United airlines after church, and their customer service department assured him that London would not be closing and that our flights would still be ok. Sean asked if we should rebook on a different flight through an alternate airport, and again, she assured him there was no need. Lesson number one: never take the word of someone who is so seemingly certain about things that cannot be controlled... like volcanic ash and the direction of the wind. Excitedly, we made it to San Francisco, our first leg of the flight. However, as soon as we landed and Sean turned on his phone, he had a notice that our next flight-- the one to London-- had been cancelled. Bah!!!!! So to make a long story short, we stood in a very long line full of a hundred other disgruntled passengers, and learned that we would not be flying out until 10:45pm the next day, and would be adding 4 more flights (including a stay overnight in LAX the following night). Oh- and the airline would not be reimbursing us for any kind of hotel or food cost incurred because of their cancellation. Great. Way to start vacation! We later learned that United was the only airline that had grounded flights to London... London had in fact only closed for less than 6 hours, and it was not during the time we would have landed. Apparently, the regulations in Europe are different than the States... if we'd gotten stranded in London, the airline would have paid food and hotel... but if we were stranded in America, they didn't have to. So really, they were just protecting themselves. Jerks. :-P So with more than 30 hours to kill before our next flight that would take us all of two cities over, we checked into a hotel and went for margaritas and tacos.

At the mexican restaurant, sad we're not on our way to Egypt right now.
